Default Saw a new scam today.

I was getting an oil change today at a local mom and pops auto repair shop. While I was waiting one of the mechanics came into the office a spoke to the owner. He was carrying a gallon of oil he had just purchased from a local big box store. One of his customers had come in with a truck and needed an oil change. The shop didn't have the weight oil he needed in stock so the mechanic went to the big box store and purchased a couple of gallons. One of the gallon jugs he had purchased had used oil in it.

Someone had bought the jug with the new oil, dumped in their vehicle, then poured the used oil back in the jug and returned it to the store. The mechanic discovered the used oil when he opened the cap. He noticed that the cap spun off way to easily and the jug didn't have the foil covering on the spout.

It's not a scam. It's shoplifting via a receipt.

A buddy of mine bought a new spool of Power Pro from Walmart a few years ago that had about 20 yards of line left on it.......just enough to cover the spool.

Some classy trashy people out there....

Stuff has been going on forever. My mother had a friend who would buy a new dress for every occasion and return it after wearing it out once or twice. I doubt changing oil and returning it is worth the effort, sounds stupid, but nowadays, what isn't stupid or silly?

Default The same all over....

Used to work part time in a local home improvement store, along with the full time gig. We used to see a LOT of folks buy a tool, use it for the project and bring it back, claiming it didn't work, or would only work sporadically. Management would cheerfully provide a refund...to the same folks...sometimes for the same model of tool several times.

We used to call it the "Builders Square Rental Return Policy". Needless to say, they have no locations in Mn anymore...

That's why I usually don't take the first or second package on the peg but take a few off and then take a package. If it is used or returned the employees will just place it back on the peg thus resulting in it being the closest on on the peg for a consumer to take. Worked retail for many years and saw a lot of abuse by customers in returning items.

As far as I'm concerned, you would have to be a freight yard hobo to be pulling penny ante scams like this.

WTF? A spool of line? A gallon of oil?

Up next- thieves figure out how to get two quarter gumballs for price of one.

Saddest day in a thief's life:

Mr. Scumbag, "Going to change my oil today and return the used oil in the container! Ten whole smackers saved!"

Mrs. Scumbag, "My mother said you would never amount to nothing and she was RIGHT! Trixie's husband is stealing CARS and you're stealing the OIL! How the F*** am I supposed to buy plastic fingernail extensions with OIL you BUM!!!"

Where do you buy motor oil by the gallon for 10 bucks? I typically pay $25+ (Mobil 1). If somebody's going to pull this scam, why would they use anything but the best?

Default scam

We got my son a video game for Christmas years ago. The package was still sealed in plastic. He opened the package, put the disc in and there was a porn film playing. Yep, the scammers replaced the disc. Walmart had their own shrink wrap machine and rewrapped the game and resold it. Explain that to a 6 year old.

Beats me.

I took a guess at what oil costs, haven't bought it off the shelf for many years.

The last four I bought new GM trucks and got free oil changes with them. Before that I kept trucks three years and had the dealer change with normal oil, but they always lasted me the three years so I never paid the upcharge for synthetic.

Nonetheless, I still think this is one pathetic scam. If I were a thief reduced to this kind of low rent BS I'd probably figure I had failed in life and get a part time job to buy the oil.
