Default Charger extension cable question

My original 6 amp 3 bank charger lost a bank last week. Nor repairable so I am replacing with a MK345PC. Realized that the New charger requires 12 gauge cables and the original was 14 gauge back to the starter battery. I know you can buy MK’s cable extender, but any reason I couldn’t get a 12 gauge outdoor extension cord and splice that in? I know I need the fused leads to be near the battery, but checking on any reason why there extension would be better Than an outdoor cord?

Does the charger extension use "tinned marine wire"? A common extension cord would not be "tinned marine wire".

You are correct, the extension appears to be tinned.

No reason really other than tinned wire would last longer, I have heard folks using booster cables as well, cut the clamps off and use the cable......just be careful and follow instructions about cutting the wires near the temperature sensor. Buying their extension just keeps things all in the family, neat and tidy!

When making the connection to the battery charger I would solder and shrink wrap, to maybe save issues down the road of corrosion of a crimp on connector.

I just went thru my fuse box on my 20 year old Crestliner`s spade connectors they were all a little green cleaned them up and coated with dielectric grease.
