Default best venue for charters/guides?

Im looking to take my 85 yo dad out on a charter, and dont want to make a mistake with some yahoo. Looking at Lake Erie or Green Bay area.

Where would be the best avenue to find out who/what/where and when? Ads (good ones anyway) always portray the business in the best light possible.
