Evinrude 9.9 issues

I have a 2005 Evinrude E-Tec 9.9 kicker motor that makes a grinding and squealing noise at full- throttle. Back it off a hair and it runs perfectly fine. Suggestions?

Back it off a bit. Usually a good idea on 14YO motors anyway. Or get a good marine mechanic to check it out. Bob

I don't think that you have a 2005 Evinrude E-tec 9.9 kicker motor as there has never been a 9.9 etec made. the smallest is a 15HO which I don't believe came out until 2010. Perhaps you should clarify what motor that you have

Smallest outboard under the Evinrude name in 2005 was the 40 E-Tec.
Post model/serial number for better help.
