Default yukon instrument cluster

First my tach gauge would sometimes work and not work, now twice when starting the truck no gauges worked now they are all working. What is the problem ? Does a cluster going bad act like this ?

What year is it? Possibly a ground wire issue. Has your dash lights flickered anytime in the past?

My 03 Tahoe gauges started getting 'flaky' I guess is as good a word as any. I replaced all of the stepper motors myself (not difficult if you're good with a soldering iron) for about $25 with motors from ebay. First it was speedo pegging or getting jittery, bouncing around, then oil gauge pegged, then temp, all going bad over a 6 month period. Common occurrence in Tahoe/Yukons in that era, about 03-06 I think.

I never had all of them act strange or not work at all at the same time, however.

I have a 2004 GMC Sierra that I bought brand-new. I had the same issue. There was a recall on the instrument panel and it was replaced for free.

My 2003 Tahoe is doing the same think first the speedometer then the temp gage started sticking now the oil gauge is stuck. If you put the car in reverse and turn the ignition key to start
it will reset the gages some times it takes more than a couple of times to get them back to zero. Their was a recall but only up to 7 years or 70,000 miles and a course mine started after the 7 years.
Delphi used inferrer stepper motors and those were the terms that GM agreed to.

I had an '03 Sierra that had the instrument cluster go wacky and it was replaced at no charge. The new one went kaput two days after installation and was replaced, again at no cost. There were a bunch of bad instrument clusters in '03 (maybe '04, too??) and GM replaced them free. My memory says it was not a recall, but if you had one that went bad and took it in they replaced it for you, no questions ask. Do not know if there was an expiration date on those free replacements.

I have an 03 Yukon Denali and my cluster works fine, but the fuse that runs the backlighting always blows, no matter what I do. Apparently it's a control fuse that runs several things. Any possible answers on this?
