Default HB units shut off when starting main motor.

Running a 1198 and 959 off the main motor battery and when I restart the main motor, the units shut down, I think voltage drops enough that they shut down.

I am running a 1000mca battery now.

I'd rather not add another battery (weight) so I'm wondering if anyone else has had this problem and what they did?
Bigger battery maybe??

Running of trolling motor batteries would work until they depleted enough, and then I'd be with out sonar.

Are you running direct to the battery? I had the same problem when I was originally wired to the control panel at the dash. Once I direct wired to the battery, the problem was fixed.

Al, that's what I ended up doing. I wired my HB's to trolling motor batteries. Problem went away.

Thanks, Brad

I would suggest you wire your Humminbird's direct to your starting battery with a 5 amp fuse. If you run them to your trolling battery you have a very good chance of introducing rfi interference to your Humminbird's.

This might be the problem, I think they are hooked to a fuse panel under the dash, I'll try to rewire them.

Wiggle, you ever run the trolling motor batteries down enough to not have enough voltage to sonar units?

Thanks all.

If I run my tm batteries down that low the days over anyway. Another issue to think about if you do that is if you need charts to get back to the launch safely. There's been more than once that dog was so bad I had to rely on the charts to find my way back

That's why I hesitate to use the TM batteries.

I had the same problem with my lowrance unit wired to the fuse panel. wired directly to the battery with inline fuse and problem solved.

I also vote for the direct wires to the starting battery approach.

BTW, pinboy122- I've never had a dog that was so bad on my boat I couldn't find my way home, but it's funny what comes to mind when I try to picture that.

Thank your spellchecker for the chuckle.
