2016 honda 150hp prop?

Anyone know what prop comes on a honda 150hp from factory? Right now mine has a 4 blade 14x21, and wide open I get 3200 rpm and 35 mph. This is on a alumacraft competitor 175 with a kicker and full windshield.

Those numbers are terrible for that boat. Who put that prop on? Not sure why a 4 blade on a boat like that. It's way too much as you should get about 5600rpm wide open. I am running a 3 blade 18 pitch prop on a Honda 135/Lund 1700 fisherman. I am usually heavy and loaded down with a top end of about 43mph gps. You need a 19 or possibly a 21 pitch 3 blade prop in my opinion. I have a vented 19 Powertech stainless steel perfect condition I am not using if you are interested. i got it from Propman here on Walleye central. It's just a little much for my boat and use.

Something is definitely not right. First yes, you are over propped- you should be spinning that motor close to 6000 rpm. But I would think motor should turn that prop more than 3200 rpm on that boat. Is your motor functioning correctly or is the tachometer correct? Is the tach wired directly to nmea hookup on engine for the rpm or is it just an analog dash tach? A dash tach often has adjustments on the back for specific engine type and that could be set wrong. I'm just saying there's more going on than a wrong prop if wot is just 3200 rpm.

Also when you say 3200 are you fully trimmed out correctly ? If your not trimmed those rpm numbers will be much lower

Dumb question but you do have the kicker up and out of the water - right?

If you do I would think that 150 would turn a 21 pitch prop no problem on that boat........the Mercury site has a prop selection tool and it is suggesting a 23 pitch prop for an 18 foot boat...

It sounds like there is something wrong with your motor or you are carrying a lot of weight.

Went back to dealer where I bought it used and they recommended a 15x17 3 blade prop. So hopefully that will fix my problem, and yes I run with the kicker up.

Sounds about right. I have a Honda 150 on an 1800 Pro-V Lund and it has a 14.75 x 18" 3 blade Stainless. It is just a little sluggish out of the hole and never gets over 5800 RPM. If your RPMs don't come up to close to 6000 with the new prop but show less than 5000 yet, check the setting on the back of the tach as ltrain indicated. It may be set for a 6 cylinder and the Honda is a 4, . My Pro-v will hit about 48 MPH with GPS on a good day with a lite load.

there is all kind of electronic over revving protection built into these modern Honda as well as other brand motors

THERE IS NO ELECTRONIC PROTECTION FOR LUGGING OVER LOADING OR OVER PROPPING THESE MOTORS
AND THIS WILL CAUSE AS MUCH OR MORE DAMAGE THAN OVER REVING A MOTOR JUST NOT AS QUICK OR IMMEDIATELY

Honda gear cases on average take two pitch sizes lower pitch props than the old school two strokes is the rule of thumb
But all in all there is probably nothing more important in rigging a boat than choosing the rite prop > Not just for performance but for the longevity of the motors
