This is the first year I've missed NWT's as a co-angler in the last 5 years, so I read with interest how the Winnebago tournament was won, slip bobbers.

A technique we do not use out here in the west. Does it work with night crawlers or need to be leeches?

Crawlers, leeches, minnows. Good application for circle hooks.

I am a transplant to the west walleye fishing now as of last december. I actually have 4 rods in rod compartments with slip bobbers alone (2 ultra lights, 2 mr walleye slip bobber rods), i got the feeling it isnt common when fisherman go by me but they have a time and place. I use the ultra lights for trout and mr walleye slip bobber rods for walleye when i see a large concentration is a n area or structure dictates to sit still. I use worms for trout and leeches for walleye on slip bobbers sometimes.

The ONLY bait we can use in Washington is crawlers. Would you put the crawler on a jig head or ?? to get it down? Is current necessary to drift the rig or how do you add movement?

I’ve tried it out here with crawlers, but I have a hard time keeping the trout and perch off the line. And yes to the jig head, that’s what I use for slip bobbers.

Just pinch a piece of the crawler off. Don't try and thread the whole thing on.

A jig is not necessary although some prefer it. You can run a swivel/flouro leader setup with an egg or bullet sinker above swivel. Run a plain Octopus hook in preferred color or small spinner blade with it on a 2 ft leader. Works great
