Default I pilot remote issue

I just purchased a boat that has a 2010 101 Terrova on it. My issue is the range that my trolling motor will work with my remote is not much more then 6 ft. Its a 20ft boat and should work from the back of the boat. I've put a brand new battery in it still does it. I've replaced the original remote with a brand new one and new battery in that and does the same thing. I'm guessing there is a receiver in the head that is bad. Has anyone else experienced this issue.

I had the original ipilot. the range was more than that and it communicates to the head so there is where the problem must be. IIRC there is about a 12" wire for the antenna. Maybe it broke or something. 4 screws and the top comes loose on the motor. Take a peek in there. Bob
Just looked at the parts on the site. I don't see that wire.(it was 10 years ago!) The controller price was $257.
