HDS Advice

Right now my boat is rigged with a Gen 1 HDS 7 at the controls and a Gen 1 HDS 5 at the bow. I also have a LSS 1. Here's the dilemma... I would like to have more viewing area in the back. Should I:

- Buy another Gen 1 HDS 7 for the back and use it solely for structure scan. Between Lowrance rebates of $200 and another $200 in Cabelas bucks I am thinking it would be a pretty good deal.

- Buy an HDS 8 for the back and try to sell either the 5 or 7. I don't know if I would get a Gen 1 or a Gen 2. I would probably be leaning toward the Gen 1 because of the same rebates as above.

I would go with the gen 1 7 if you can find one.on sale for 949. Right now.200 from cabelas and 200 from lowrance...549 for a 7 is a nobrainer.BUT, might be hard to pull off since rebate ends on the 30 th.

No question HDS 8 Gen 2, move the HDS7 to the bow and try to sell the HDS 5. The hot keys and ability to split the screen 4 ways on the 8 are awesome as well as the high screen resolution, and the Gen2's are way faster.

I think I would get the 8 and install at helm alongside the 5 that you'll use for GPS only. Put the 7 in the bow. I currently run a 7 up front and the 8 at the helm and am thinking of getting a five to do just that (GPS). Maybe I'll spring for a 7 instead based on the deal you've described. 5 days to decide. Hmmm.

I just read the fine print and the $200 Lowrance discount was for units purchased by 5/31 and needed to be mailed by the end of this month.
