What's Going On At Fast Food Restaurants?

I’m not a big fan of McDonald’s burgers but I do like their Sausage McMuffin on occasion. All of them in my area only have one drive thru lane open to take orders and the lines are very long and it takes at least a half hour to get your order, sometimes longer.

I know the reason for many other businesses that can’t find help is due to the additional unemployment benefits given out by the feds but places like McDonald’s usually have a lot of high school kids especially in the summer working part time for some extra cash. Maybe I’m wrong but don’t think they are collecting unemployment, so why are they not working?

I was at a McDonald's today and they had signs everywhere saying they are paying $15 an hour to start. Seems like a pretty good wage for an entry level or part time job for a teenager.

Just another sign we are headed towards some pretty high inflation rates.

Not only McDonalds, we just got back from Ashland Wisc and one of the few restaurants open had shorter hours because of staff shortage, she mentioned that over half the restaurants in Ashland were closed.

Politicians have made it better to stay home, than go to work.

Outside of the fast food places Lot of staff in real restaurants have chosen not to return once they reopen. Since they had time during the time they were shut down they took online courses , improving them selves and found other jobs. Niece is a manager at a bar / restaurant said a lot of the servers didn`t return . Also she said the increase in unemployment didn `t really cover what most of them made in tips a week.

Last month we stopped at a Wendy’s north of Brainerd, as we pulled up to the drive through the lady taking orders announced they were closing for 30 minutes to allow herself and her grill employee time for a lunch break.

its everywhere, in every industry and paying people to stay home isnt helping. June 1st, every gas station between KC and Pierre had signs up that said "$350 sign on bonus" . I imageine they are also paying current employees to just come to work .

4 million people quit their jobs in April to take or find better jobs, setting a record. You don't get unemployment when you quit. The crappy jobs with crappy bosses aren't getting refilled. Many people stayed in a job because of inertia and they got laid off through no fault of their own. The realization of how much the job sucked set in once the routine was broken. They aren't going back. Those jobs in food service and retail are just going to have to make themselves more attractive. Better pay, better benefits and schedules that don't change week to week would be a good start.

a lot of these jobs will simply be automated at $15 per hour. its already happening. people may not be going back to that job but they will need to go somewhere, nobody is paying $30 per hour for a $10 an hour skill set ....unless you want to pay $22 for a McDonalds #1

fast food will become you electronically order and pay by credit card then fill your own drink while you wait for the slop to slide down to you only 4 workers on busy days and 2 of them will be trained monkeys with 1 of those being the boss of the whole operation

And then we’ll pay all those people to sit at home so the fast food places don’t lose profits.

Fast food workers throughout Europe make $15 or more and the sandwiches cost the same as they do here. It’s not like this is some uncharted territory. Or an organized movement. People are exercising their options and making their choices, it’s the definition of freedom. Who can be against that? The current job market is an employee’s market and ownership will have to adjust. Sometimes the market doesn’t work in your favor.
