Default Lasik surgery/Retinal detachment

Curious if anyone has experienced a retinal detachment after having lasik surgery? Read an interesting article about the correlation between the two and since I have lost sight in one eye due to a detachment and fortunately had one in the other eye but they were able to hook that one back up after having lasik some time ago .
Thanks!

I was one who experienced torn and detached in both eyes. 7 surgeries. I have a center blur spot in my right eye and horrible depth perception in that eye. The left turned out ok. Three weeks of bed in one position was no fun.
This all happened in 2008 with the surgery in late 2006. For all intensive reasons my right eye is shot. Scar tissue formed behind the retina. I was a right eye dominant target shooter. I lost all that and having to shoot left handed and all low recoil. My sight has adjusted with correction and can drive safely and hasn't affected my fishing.

My dad was going through this with his right eye, and it ended well. It was a great stress for him, and he was scared at all stages of treatment and recovery.

Default yes, maybe

Scarred right eye due to loosing suction during lasik surgery. Retina later detached requiring a scleral buckling procedure. Poor vision with some double vision requiring prisms in corrective lenses. Left retina later detached (within the same year). It was able to be repaired with multiple laser treatments.

This lead to replacing the fluid in both eyes to remove all the blood (floaters) and then cataract surgery. All together took 7 surgeries and multiple trips to the clinic. Still go yearly for checkups.

So, can't really say that the lasik had anything to do with it since only one eye was treated but definitely had the worst detachment with that eye.

Default Interesting

I,too, had 7 surgeries in my right eye and they were unable to hook it back up so blind in that eye. it was also my shooting eye and caused me to stop hunting as well! Left eye fortunately was fixed well and I have 20/25 vision in that so other than the loss of depth perception I can do things fairly well! Spend a lot more time fishing that's for sure.
Thanks for the comments
BTW Spurs you are correct spending 3 weeks laying face down is not fun--especially having to do it 2x's.

I was just reading yesterday that one of the original FDA guys who helped to approve Lasik now believes it was a big mistake and that Lasik surgery should be banned. My type of eye disease (keratoconus) prohibits against Lasik.

Mother in law had it happen to her. She turned out fine but was in bed staring at the ceiling for 3 or 4 weeks.

3 weeks each time and yes buckles installed in both eyes. One time made an emergency trip to relieve pressure build up in right eye. It was so painful that I upchucked on the way to institute. Everyday I wake up with vision I feel blessed.

I will continue to use glasses it is not that big of a deal for me to wear them. Lasik's does not last forever your eyes will continue to change as you get older, so either glasses or another surgery....not thanks not for me or only as the very last option..

I have been cornea transplant eligible for years due to my eye disease. I have the disease in both eyes but my left eye is much worse than the right eye. I never had it done because my disease would immediately begin attacking the replacement cornea so I had planned to delay until later in life, expecting that surgery should last me the rest of my life.

Anyway, last year my doctors told me that that I might as well not have the transplant now because when you get around 58-60 years old, your eyes stop changing other than perhaps cataracts. Now he did say that if something happened to my better eye then I should consider the transplant on my worst eye to at least give me some option at vision.
