Back when I lived in the Southwest and spent a lot of nights cruising lonely desert roads hunting for snakes (for photography or pets, not to kill), my staples were Snickers bars and Circle K Big Gulps of caffeinated soda. I'm much better behaved nowadays and carry mostly seltzer (still some Coke) and homemade sandwiches for road food.

I LOVE McDonald's breakfast bagel sandwiches, but I haven't had one in over a year now. Probably partly how I've lost over 50 lb since the beginning of last year.

"I LOVE McDonald's breakfast bagel sandwiches, but I haven't had one in over a year now."

That didn't take much willpower - they discontinued them over a year ago.

If that's true, I didn't know it. Don't know whether it would make me feel better or worse...

Might be discontinued in some places but still on their website.

You must be the only other person besides my wife and me that lost weight this past year. I'm down #85 and she's down, well, let's just say she's not being specific about it online.

Have you actually seen one on the menu anywhere? I've not seen bagels at any McDonalds locations in many different states in over a year. Here's a link confirming the status of the bagel sandwich.

Congrats on your weight loss.

Eau Claire:
Maple Lounge & Cafe - good portions, really reasonable prices and prepared well. Right off I-94W @ the Hwy 53N exit, about 1 mile north to Hwy 12.

Randy's Family Restaurant (formerly Chicken Hut) - a mile north off I-94W at the Hwy 37N exit.
Superb breakfast food menu all day, decent prices, large portions.
The shikken is pretty good too.
Always used to hit it up after bar time but Co-Vid ended that.

Secret Piece O' Heaven hidden away just east of the Osseo exit on I-94W on OLD Hwy 10 (a block or two north of the NEW Hwy 10) - Blooms Country Inn.
It used to be a roadside diner featuring the Blue Plate Special (open face hot beef sammich, mashed taters, & gravy) that the fam always hit up on the way from Eau Claire to Appleton via Hwy 10.
It's been ages since Anonymouse was actually in there, but it's local reputation is stellar. Co-Vid precautions may apply, so call ahead.
