Default prokicker 9.9 PITA

So I bought a like new 2013 lund with a 115 merc/yamaha and a 9.9 prokicker. My limited experience with kickers has been a buddies t8 with like a million hours and another friends 9.9 honda....both older 2000-2005 engines. Anyway my motor runs and everythihg but man it is noisey...almost a squeel in it. Also it hates cold weather. At what point did merc decide this was a good engine? I believe it is a Tohatsu. Did all the bad engineers from japan go there or what? Seriously I can't here my 115 at idle....I forget to turn it off when I run the kicker. Anyone have any recommendations? Pretty sure its going to drive me nuts.

I have a 2017 and have to look at the tell-tale to see if it's running.

I just googled Merc 9.9 pro kicker noisy and hear what you're hearing. That's terrible and lots have the same issue.
That would be maddening.
Hope you find a fix.

I have no complaints about my 2010 9.9 Pro Kicker. I use it alot and have had it since it was new. I had to take the carb off and clean it shortly after I got it, but haven't had a problem with it since.

No secret. It's never whined at all. I don't think I'm the only one that hasn't had that issue.

is your 2017 carb'd? Same motor as a 2013? I'm going to screw around with it this weekend...check air leaks, etc. It is super annoying at the least.

Yes mine is a 2017 and my buddy has a carbed 2017 as well, we both got them in the same week but from different dealers.
No issues in either one

took the carb off today and opened it up. Bowl has some crud in it. Cleaner I added to separate fuel tank last week did get the gunk loose but it is still floating around in there. I will clean it and see how it goes. Need to get gaskets from the dealer this week. Carb is sitting in cleaner now. No idea how or why this would cause any whining noise but I wanted to check the intake gaskets out and figured....as long as I"m in here...
