What do they mean by self isolate? Once you arrive in Canada you go directly to your hotel, cottage etc, and stay indoors there for 2 weeks? I guess I could show up with enough food and boat gas for two weeks. So if your dock is on your property, can you go out in your boat to fish? Is that self isolating?
You can,t fish from indoors. You have to stay indoors. |
The United States and Canada are preparing to issue a joint statement in the next 24-48 hours to suspend non-essential travel between the two countries, a Trump administration official tells CNN.
I just read a similar statement that originated here in Canada. At this time it is in each country's best interest to stop unnecessary cross border travel in order to slow down the spread of the virus. It makes good sense. |

It was just announced that the border is closed to all non essential travel.
No word on how long though. Fisherman 1792 |

It was just a matter of time before the border was going to be closed. As we have all seen this is a very fluid situation and who knows how long all these proactive measures will last. All we can do is hope these measures allow both countries to help contain and ultimately reduce the virus cases. Our trip is the 1st week of June and I will be staying in contact with our outfitter.
I cherish our weekly trip to a Canadian lake but understand it pales in comparison to all the economic and health issues this is causing for everyone on both sides of the border. Best wishes to all WC members and please follow the guidelines from our Medical experts so we can ultimately beat this virus.. |

This situation is definatly a weird feeling. As a fishing guide i was looking forward to another season of meeting up with old guests and a chance with some new ones.Cant imagine the impact it will have on all the outfitters across canada. But this virus has to be kicked in the A** hard and fast and everyone has to contribute in there own way.Good luck to all.

Ya it sure sucks, I am grateful that I was able to get down in the US to visit friends and catch a redwings game before the NHL stopped.
Now that I'm home I'm doing my part by staying at home, not going anywhere for the next 10 to 14 days. My employer also told me to stay away so I guess I'm in quarantine. Got no symptoms as of yet. Best of luck to everyone on WC! Fisherman 1792 |

What IS self-isolation?
The question is how will this be OPERATIONALIZED? I'm sure the outfitters will be on this. Not sure about the rest of you, but my fly-ins (now twice a season) are the highlight of my year and I start enjoying the whole process of even THINKING about it this time of year. Fishing in Minnesota just ain't the same.

When are the worlds advanced nations like Canada and the US goin to say enough is enough to countries like China and simply prohibit travel to there/from there. This is 100% China's fault, it is crippling the world and maybe for good. Screw China, we can put sanctions on stuff manufactured there for us so it needs to be made here. Just cut China rite off like a hemmroid

Hopefully things change for the better in time. The Canadian $ is getting walloped, which is great news for you folks in the US. Currently at $1.45 CAD for $1.00 USD. That's more than a 0.10 increase since the start of March.
Not sure if it's a good time to purchase some Canadian $ or not, I am not a finance guy, but it hasn't been this low since Jan'2016. So much for my BassPro order..... |
