Bow is the least stable part of the boat. Side gunnel near console or back at transom which is the most stable and the bow also may have some electro magnetic field fron the motor. It’s only used for jog feature.

Be sure there is no magnetic interference at your intended mounting location. Minnkota originally stated to not mount the heading sensor within 3 feet of the motor. They have since revised their mounting instructions. I attached a link below for reference.

I used an old fashioned compass to check my intended mounting locations for deviation before mounting. I ended up inside my rod locker between the consoles.

A couple notes. The sensor can be shared by other Ethernet units and the HS needs to be able to get a Bluetooth radio signal to the head of the trolling motor(inside a metal compartment could prevent that). It needs to be mounted fairly level and the proper side up(not upside down as inside the lid of the compartment). Bob

Good point, not only did I check for magnetic interference with a compass, I also checked for connectivity for the blue tooth before final installation. I temporarily wired power to it while testing.

I also asked people from Minnkota if it could be mounted upside down on the inside of my rod locker lid. They told me no.

BTW, my rod locker has a wooden lid/door.

It is used for boat heading line at speed`s less then .6 mph along with the jog feature instead of Hbirds donut.
