Why dont Humminbird have a depth tracking feature? There must be just about everything in place.
Is it because Motorguide are sitting on the old Pinpoint patent?

They learned from pinpoints mistake. It doesn't work. Too many problems with fishing flats, or real steep dropoffs. GPS, lake map chip, and trolling motor that follows gps works better.

I could see technology working off of depth if you were using a 360 type sonar. Speed would be a factor in how accurate it would be.

I had one of the original Pinpoints and it worked well, within limits. Not quite so good on relative flats or in real windy weather, where it could get blown off track, then start to hunt in circles.
Mostly though you just punched in a depth or locked on current contour and it followed it.
