Default Best 7’ Rod for Boards and Bouncers

Looking for a great affordable 7’ trolling rod that can pull boards with snap weights and act as a great backup bouncer rod in the rod holder. Iv seen that some people like the Fenwick HMG 7’ casting rod but it seems a little too stiff to me. Any other suggestions?

Default Rod

Take a look at the Prodigy from Bass Pro/Cabela's they have a 7'6" telescoping rod that is a nice one for $79.00 and some change.

St. Croix Rod® Eyecon® Bounce-N-Troll Casting Rod, 7' MH

https://www.runnings.com/department/...-rod-7-mh.htmlI have a new St Croix bounce n troll I haven’t had a chance to use yet, I’m hoping it’s all it’s been said it is.

I have been using for several years now, the Okuma Dead eye slow death rods like depicted in the following link. Only difference is mine are two piece 9 feet. They’ve been great rods thus far.

Diawa Wilderness 7' med heavy. Normally around $19.99. Sometimes Franks or Northwoods Whls has them on for $12.99.
I replace 6 every five years and have never broken one. The foam on the handle seems to get beat up after a few years.

I have 6 rods for boards/snap weights/bouncers. I use cheap 7' Shimanos, medium action. I had some for a few years and broke a couple so last year bought 6 more. I couldn't find the exact model but found ones that seem to be the same. They are about $15 each. You don't need a expensive rod for trolling as you aren't going to feel the bite anyway.

I had a Cabelas Pro Guide 7ft, med action rod that I used for years. A $40 rod. Got better hookups with it than any rod I owned. I have a good number of rods of different manufactures. I watch eBay trying to find another Pro Guide, so far no luck.
Using an HMG and an HMX now, to be honest The HMX works as well for trolling as the HMG and its less $$.

Good Luck in your quest.

I’m with the crowd that says you don’t need to break the bank on rods for trolling. I’ve been using medium action Ugly Stiks and they last for years, some of mine are over 25 years old. I spend the bigger bucks on my jigging rods.

I have two Berkley Lightning Rods in 7', medium heavy action. Nice rods for the price. Found mine at Wally World (Walmart) Work good with in line sinkers, snap weights and divers.
