Default Is flip up arm same as transom saver?

Ranger 621vs with etec 250 gen 1. I always use the flip up motor support arm for trailering. DOEs that do enough for the transom or do I need a saver?

I used to use the flip up lever for short trips until one day I discovered it had broken in two! Must have hit a bump or fatigued over time. The lever on mine is just cast metal, not machined. I now use the transom saver all the time. Just my experience.

Flip up is NOT to be used when trailering.... I'm sure it's in the user manual but if the boat was purchased used you may not have that.

Then, when are you supposed to use it?

That's all I used for short trips to the ramp across town with all my ETECs. Never was an issue.

If I were still trailering long distances to tournaments and such, I would use a transom saver too, just to be safe.

This 400 Merc has a floppy thing too, but it's just a skinny plastic one, and I don't trust it, like I did the metal one on the ETEC, so I'll be looking to get a transom saver for this boat before spring.

Sorry, I gave out some bad info there, on the Etec that is indeed a trailering bracket

Yamaha is different- this is out of my owners manual

Quote:
Do not use the tilt support lever or knob
when trailering the boat. The outboard mo-
tor could shake loose from the tilt support
and fall. If the motor cannot be trailered in
50
the normal running position, use an addi-
tional support device to secure it in the tilt
position.

The key is, what is supporting the weight of the motor. If it is the motor itself that is not good as the weight is bouncing on the transom. If it is on the trailer itself it will protect the transom. JMO Bob

When I ran my Ranger 619 with a 225HO E-tec I asked the factory. They told me to use the trailering bracket, that is why it was there. I asked Ranger, they told me to use the trailering bracket, that is why it was there.

So, I used the trailering bracket. Thousands of miles later - no problem.

SOS,
If you want a hassle free, rock solid motor saver, give the Motor Mate a try:

https://motormateusa.com/

Purchase the one that matches your motor and you will be set.

Easy to use, rock solid, does not damage the motor, the transom or the trailer.

Much different, but much easier and more solid that other devices on the market.

It is for servicing the trim/tilt system, not trailering.
