Default What is on your bucket list?

What is on your bucket list?

About ten days ago, I had surgery for a double hernia. I have had some complications and yesterday, I was sent for an emergency cat scan. The scanning place would not let me leave until their doctor who read the cat scan spoke to my surgeon on the phone so they could figure out what they wanted to do with me. They finally told me I could leave and that my surgeon would soon be calling me.

As of now, I have not heard from my surgeon about what they found, if anything. I called today and he was in surgery all day. Before I headed up to the cat scan, my surgeon told me that he suspected I had an abscess and started me on strong antibiotics, but he wanted the test because in his words, "he did not like the way I looked."

While, I have no reason to suspect anything is really wrong, it got me to thinking, what if there is. My brother has previously had cancer, my father passed away of a rare cancer in October, and three weeks I spent two days in the hospital for a hypertensive emergency. My thoughts took me to the Tim McGraw song, "Live like you are Dying", in which the character has the chance to make amends to those in his past, be a better husband and also to check a few things off his bucket list.

Then I started thinking, other than perhaps walking the Great Wall of China, learning to fly fish, or singing to my wife from onstage, I really don't have a bucket list. Then I thought of you guys. If you were to make a bucket list, what would be on it? Instead of talking about bait buckets, let's make a community bucket list.

Ours have all graduated. Now we have 5 waiting. Gotta see em all (Not likely but...)

Also, the bridge from MN to WI slid a year on completion. That has been on my list for awhile but now gotta last at least one more year!

On the more macabre side, I hope my wife out lives me. Could not stand to be without her (she does nice laundry & cleaning too)

My wife and I have talked about taking a cross country train ride to Oregon or so and then renting a convertible and work our way down the coast of California. I think that would be nice.

In my opinion, there's not a bucket list item in the world worth doing alone. It's not about the event or activity. It's about the memories shared with the people you do it with.

Go offshore fishing with my wife
Go out west hunting mule deer or elk with my sons
Visit Alaska with my wife
Buy the boat of my dreams
Ive already seen my sons grow into productive men, so if the good Lord allows me, I'd like to see my grandkids do well and prosper.
