Default What line for new Musky reel?

I've always used 80lb. Power-Pro but a buddy really likes Suffix 832 80 lb. Is there any difference or what do you guys use/recommend? TIA, Randy

Cortland Master Braid.
Test is your choice, but I run 60#

Cortland masterbraid is my 1st choice, I don't have a 2nd choice.
50# on my light setup, 65# for 1-3 0z. lures and 80# for heavy stuff.

3# test ice fishing line, on a hand reel.
Don't laugh, Anonymouse boated a 39.5" one soaking a crawler for a couple hours while his buddy shot a black & red bucktail all over creation & got skunked.

Suffix 832 80# on most of my rods. I'm done with PP after several issues with it.

65lb power pro for my big snook, cobia, and muskie setups.

Alot of people like Suffix, I hate it, to me its like a little limp rope. I like fire line and power pro for a little more stiffness. If you like the freedom of softer(limper) line you will probably prefer the Suffix. Either way try out a spool.

This is the right answer. I use 80lb. Masterbraid is a great line. You can probably get 4 years out of it

Please don't misunderstand. I did not have any trouble with PP I just wanted to try something different. I still have my Calcutta 400 spooled with 80# PP.
I used to use PP on some reels. Some people have issues with it breaking on casts.

Default 832

I used 80# Sufix 832 musky fishing last summer and liked it. It casts well, had no odd breaks and lays on the spool well. I will be eventually be replacing the power pro on my other reels with Sufix 832. By comparison, I find power pro noisy (not really a big deal) and it has a tendency to bite into itself on the reel. Tug too hard on a snag and the line on the reel will dig a few layers down which can be a time bomb for a birds nest (baitcaster or spinning).

Unlink most braids, Sufix 832 sinks (slowly). My test with tapwater in the utility room sink proved it, but I didn't notice much of a difference on the water (including tossing topwaters).

Toughest in MN - 10 pound walleye or 50 inch musky? I'm still in pursuit of both, but expect to catch the musky soon. The walleye, I have my doubts. Otter Strictly Fishing 9 01-06-2004 03:12 PM
I'm in the market for a good Tackle box, and I've narrowed it down to either the Lakewood Musky Monster, or the Musky Medium. Does anyone have any opinions, or advice? foamboard General Discussion 0 01-10-2002 05:46 AM
Best way to fix Wis. so-called musky problem. Lots of talk lately about raising size limits to improve Wis. musky fisheries which I don't feel is necessarily the answer. We unfortuneately cannot stop fish4musky General Discussion 8 10-09-2001 11:15 AM
