Allen,
If you haven't already found out, a heavy ice chisel can do quick work in getting rid of old flooring. Use a chisel with a 4 or 5 inch wide blade that weighs in at a few lbs and the old flooring comes of very quickly.

Using a narrower one like the 4 inch one, lets you get through all of the layers in one pass.
