Awesome Nice work bow tech!

I went out Saturday here in Illinois I have a tag for Marshall and Warren counties and didn't see a bird. Marshall has some birds but the land I had permission to hunt showed no signs of life. If anyone wants to get out a day this week let me know.

I finally bagged my first bird in Illinois this year photo below. I also bagged two in Nebraska.

Had quite the entertaining experience the other morning. Started night before when I couldn't find my decoys. After about an hour and a half of looking and contact all the potential suspects, I found them in the first place I looked. From there I checked the weather. Huge storm front to roll through around 8am. Thought I would just sleep through it so no problem. Got out and got set up, very windy and sure enough, rain on the horizon.

Brother called me on his way to work and said he had driven through the storm and tat it was tough but only an hour or so. As rain started to hit good I laid down on ground and got about 30 minutes sleep. Woke up to it raining about as hard as it possibly could. As I laid there waiting for it to let up, I heard an odd thumping noise. First thought was that it sounded like a turkey beating on my decoy. I had everything kind of piled up in one corner of blind so I crawled over to take a look.

As I peeked through the closed window, sure enough I could see a tom beating on my decoy in this down pour. I got to my knees and drew on the bird. I didn't give myself enough space to through so I tried to pull my blind down with my bow hand as I aimed. Sure enough I shot right over the back of him at 20 yards, a shot that I have made many times and am very comfortable with.

The turkey ran about 20 yards, 40 yards out now, and just stopped and stood there in the rain. After adjusting my windows and seeing that he was in no hurry to leave, I decided to try him at 40. This is a shot I also felt comfortable with but not a gimme like the 20 yard shot. Well, first shot at 40 I missed low, not sure if the driving rain knocked the arrow down or what, but I decided not to shoot again and see what he does.

10 minutes go by, turkey has not moved an inch, just stand in the rain. I decide I it's a good idea to try again so I draw on him. This time I decide to aim even with his back as the last shot went so low. Sure enough, right over his back.

At this point in out of good arrows and just watching the show. I have a small game arrow left though and decide that if he gets close again I will shoot him in the head. All works out on his end and he eventually closes the distance back to 20. I take a tough head shot at 20 and miss cleanly.

This finally scares the turkeys off and it's time to recover arrows. I get out and look for arrows, no luck in the tall grass. I do end up finding one arrow, losing 3.

All said, 10 hours in blind, 4 misses, 3 arrows/broad heads lost. Wish I would have had that sh!t show on video.

Dang man that is a tough start! Hopefully in a bit of time that experience will pass as I am sure you felt terrible (I know I would have had a tough recovery).

When I shot the Jake in Illinois it wasn't my turn to shoot, I wanted my buddy to bag his first bird, but as luck would have it (and he is a lefty) he never got a shot and I shot one texas style as they walked away.

My buddy got another chance at a bird at about 15 yards two days later. Appeared to be a nice shot on a jake as he did a couple backflips, but then he flew off and the ridges and honeysuckle were too much for us to find him. Really sucked.


Trip to the archery shop for sure for more arrows and broadheads. Be sure to check out the Dead Ringer Traumas for a 3-1/8" cut.
