Default Walleye Tournament MLF style

I love watching MLF. its super exciting was to bass fish competitively.

I was following the first ever walleye event with Classicbass.com where pro walleye guys caught and weighed every fish before returning it to the water (there was an official in all 20+ boats) and whoever had the most fish won.

Was really cool to see that leak into walleye fishing and hope it continues.

I too found it to be a very exciting tourney. It is highest weight total not most fish btw. Nice to see all those walleye coming out of Mille lacs too ( im headed there for first time next year, hence my excitement)

I think this may be where professional fishing is headed. It is a great format and keeps the competition up. It keeps pressure on the fishermen all day to keep catching fish. It must be kind of cool to get a score tracker update and know exactly how good or bad the rest of the field is doing. I don't think it will end normal tournaments but I do prefer the MLF format for pro tournaments for the sake of the fish. If you are a person that enjoys seeing the professional tournament weigh-ins then this format isn't for you. I wouldn't mind fishing a tournament or two in this format. I think it would be a lot of fun.

I know Classic Bass is planning a circuit next year,..

They said on Facebook there would be at least one "open"

Target Walleye said they have seen the tentative schedule,..

Still waiting for that to be released,....

If might just change tournament fishing as we know it,..

i think the big news MLF just released where a ton of bass pros (including KVD) are exclusively fishing the MLF instead of FLW and Bassmasters next year is HUGE for the sport of professional fishing all around. It says this format draws a ton of interest and I think is the future of professional fishing.

I think the one thing that really irritates many fisherman even walleye fisherman at times when they follow the walleye tournaments are the no cull rules and all the slot rules. We get it from a conservation standpoint but ultimately when a guy is pounding fish in the slot (jason prezkurat at the 2012 flw caught a good number of 23+" slot fish that had to go back) while another guy can weight a bag

How would you regulate mortality rates for a Walleye version? Would you only fish cooler water months? Not allow fishing over x number of feet deep? Would you eliminate live bait? Require circle hooks, barb-less?

Not pro or con the idea, just curious of you would change the way guys fish or just turn them loose to fish anywhere and anyway they like.

The mortality rates would have to be lower releasing them right after the catch as opposed to riding around in a live well all day , i would think, right? As far as the other regs I am not sure, how do they do it with conventional tournaments. I think the main difference with MLF is that there is an official on every boat to weigh fish and see they are brought into and then returned gently or there is a penalty assessment.
Really think it's an exciting way to run a tournament, I know its fun watching it
