If you decide to sell the 175 let me know as my boat is rated for 175 and they are hard to find in that horsepower range.

I've decided to keep the motor and simply troubleshoot the excess smoke issue. Thanks for the replies here if I run into any other issues I'll start a new thread but I think I have it figured out.

Try running a bottle of Yamaha Ring Free every couple or three tanks.

I run ring free every tank. Maybe I'll try skipping a tank or 2.

If you've been running it every tank, I'd keep doing that.

Are you running Yamalube or ETEC oil? Seems to me it smelled more if I used cheaper oil.

Ive always run Yamlube. I've read switching over to full synthetic will help as there are reports Yamalube smokes more. Not sure I want to go down that route. Only 511hrs on the motor.

Seems to me I had read back in those days that the full synthetic would make the engine run a bit hotter for some reason.

I ran Yamalube, and the etec xd50 oil. They were about the same price and semi synthetic.

You might check with Yamaha tech support, they're easy to get on the line.
