Default Bass pro shop marine 4 stroke oil

Is this stuff any good? I see it on sale for $12 a gallon all the time. The quick silver 10w-30 I buy is usually $27 a gallon. Who makes it?

This oil meets the national standards for 4-stroke marine oil:

I’m assuming it’s use won’t void the warranty on my new mercury? Honestly with the low hours I put on the motor and the fact the oil gets changed before I stow it for the winter, I imagine it won’t matter much, my oil is still clear and clean when I dump it.

I have run it in 250 sho, 200 pro xs with no issues. I normally change oil around 80-90hrs per season. Should probably have oil analysis done.

That would be very telling. Most likely it’s good to go I imagine.

Once it is broke in I would switch over to mobil one synthetic and change every year. That engine will outlast you and the next generation.

Mobil 1 does NOT make/sell Marine rated oil.

To be rated for Marine use, the rating is FCW. Mobil 1 is not. That doesn't necessarily mean it would not meet it, but they have not put it through the testing to get the rating. The problem with using it in your outboard is that the outboard manufacturers require that an FCW rated oil to be used. Could cause an issue during warranty, or otherwise. ??

Best practice in a modern 4 stroke outboard is use an FCW oil, NOT Mobil 1.

Bass Pro oil is FCW, so should be just fine.

I emailed Cabelas / Bass Pro to ask for the technical data sheet and this was their reply. - I am sorry, I was informed that we choose not to share the lab test reports with our customers at this time. The oil is NMMA certified and meets or exceeds the needed certification levels.

I did find this info from the company that some people stated manufactures the oil for Basspro. 'If it is the same oil', it states the VI viscosity index is 100 which is a minimal rating. http://www.amalie.com/products/files...ine%20Oils.pdf
