Plastics for walleyes

Another thing I should mention, fishing plastic is targeting active fish. If you aren’t getting bit within 10-15 minutes covering an area, move. The move can be as little as 100’ if it’s a good size structure that you feel confident about holding fish. Often you’ll set down on a spot and catch a couple then it will go dead. Either switch over to a more subtle presentation like a Ned rig, drop shot or slip bobber or move.

I absolutely love plastics over live bait. I fish cold water with paddle tails 3-5", as well as Gulp Minnow style baits. When the water temp warms up into the 50's, Pulse-Rs are my go to. Twister tails in 2"-4" are my money lure when the water warms 60 degrees and up.

I have many different colors in my arsenal, and the top 3 colors are:
White
Chartreuse
Bloodline.

Faster is always better than slower. Jig head size depends totally on depth, current, etc. 1/8oz is my most common.

RJR just about said it all. You can also do a straight retrieve so long as the plastic has good tail action and a bit of roll. I’m particularly fond of that over thick weeds when you can also stop the retrieve and let it fall at the edge.

My best days fishing paddletails have been had by doing this over emergent weeds. Seems that shallow water walleyes hunkered down in the weeds just absolutely crush baits rolled over the top of them.

I actually haven't used the WildEye Swim Shad yet Gerry. It is on my list of plastics to try, however. Seems like I might be missing out by not using these!!

Agreed, I spent anv two hours last weekend, moved the boat sideways a total of 100' and caught one 18-22" walleye after another in 4-6 FOW. The Cabela's go-to series paddletails in 3.5" are a nice bait.
