Spiderwire breaking down?
Bought some new Spiderwire braid for my dad today at our local "big box" tackle store. The guy working the fishing counter said he wouldn't recommend Spiderwire cause he has had the "coating" come off the line and foul his eyelets. I have used Spiderwire in the past and have not ever had this happen to me. Has this happened to anyone else? Does it happen often if it does?

I have some that's years old, and nothing has rubbed off. Maybe the salesman was encouraged to sell something else that the store had in excess inventory.

An impressionable young salesperson gets fed a "line" from an equally inexperienced rookie and suddenly a new "false" is born. Ive used it on and off for years without issue.

Most likely scenario is that the young salesman has a cracked eyelet on the rod tip or one of the other eyes close to the tip, which could or would peel the coating on the line off causing his problem. I've been using Spiderwire Stealth on the majority of my baitcast reel since they came out with it and have had no such problems as he describes. Spool it up and enjoy, it's good line!!

SpiderWire Stealth is my go to braid. Been using it for the last 6-7 years. Its on all my rods except a couple of crappie rods. I peel off about 25' every spring and I am ready to go. Never have seen what you are describing from the big box store.

I've used all kinds of braid including spiderwire and never had a problem. my go to line for casting now is suffix 832 and power pro for trolling. he probably just heard the story from someone else and thought he was giving out good info.

If it's Stealth, that's Teflon coated and would only improve your line going through the guides. I've used Stealth since I was a field tester of it and the only braid I use. Never a problem of any sorts with it.

Been using spiderwire since it came out. Have tried most superlines over the years as well. Have had no issues. And still have some original line on a couple reels(granted I do not use them much anymore), but it is still ok after all this time.
