Default Leaving boat in parking lot or outside overnight

In another thread a guy commented about parking your boat overnight so I thought I'd start a new thread

We started using an alarm from harbor freight. It's cheap and effective. Alerted me to a potential issue in Detroit last spring.

I use it anytime the boat is outside doesn't matter if it's at home, hotel, camping etc.

Please explain how you set this up. Does the sensor sit inside the boat/under the cover? Does it only trigger if the cover is disturbed? Just curious how and what will trigger it. How loud is the alarm? Only sounds alarm in your room or does it trigger an alarm at the boat as well? (in case you are not present)

the alarm is two pieces, both of which need a few batteries. I think a few D's and a 9 volt.

1. set motion detector part in boat. I put it on the floor next to the console pointing towards the stern.

2. The "alarm" goes with me into the tent, hotel, etc. If someone reaches in the boat the motion triggers the alarm.

The alarm is a tone that isn't very terrifying just a beep to alert you.

If we go into a restaurant etc during a trip, I'll set it up with both parts in the boat just to ward off would be thief's so I don't have to carry it around. The nice thing is since it's battery operated you can use it anywhere.

Will the cover movement in the wind set off the alarm?

My cover is pretty tight so it has never been an issue for me.
