Heres our boys. The white Wirehair was a Christmas present from me to my wife two years ago. His name is Cascade Beamer. The liver one is my Wirehair ( he looks like a short hair, but he`s not) His name is Cascade Tin man. The little one is Frankie. I found him last year at Christmas when i was out pheasant hunting. He was out in a wild life management area two miles from the nearest farm place. He couldn't walk any more and none of the farms would claim him. So he now lives with us and is number one in the house hold. Wiredog

she has been a joy to hunt with. this is my first pointer. i have always hunted with labs my whole life. have to say i enjoy hunting with the wirehair more then the labs. don't tell my 2 labs that.

Now you have discovered what us pointer guys have been talking about!!! I have a number of guys hunt over my wires that owned labs that have switched to pointing breeds. But have never had anyone switch from pointers to labs. Wiredog

My three Griffons and my new English Setter puppy. The other pic is me in ND where I had 3 dogs setting in front of me and a Rooster sailed into a ditch and the ever vigilant duck dog of the 3 spots it and they were all gone in a flash!
All 3 dogs are in the pointing picture and they are all honoring!

I love when the dogs will back each other!! Did you decide to put a little speed in the pack with the setter??? Back in the late 90sand early 2000s i used to live 4 miles north of Maple Lake and had friends that lived by and worked in Monticello. One owned the chevy dealership and another sold real estate for Edina Reality. Both had Wirehairs. Wiredog

My Griffs hunt in ND with my friends English Setters every year and they tend to "stretch" my Griffs a bit. Mine are all different with one being my close working root out the thick stuff, one mid range and one big runner so I am used to ranging. My big runner is the one in the distance honoring from a long ways away and is so rock solid and wind scents a lot so her bigger range works. I very seldom have all 3 out at once unless I know it is the last walk. I have 3 so I can rotate them and not wear them down.
Buster, my male, is 13 years old and retired as of this year. I will be facing that dreaded "decision" here in the future. He can't control is bowel much anymore even when he sleeps but I just am vigilant about cleaning up. He will tell me when it is time. Saddens me as I type this.

To your original point about speed. Not really. My youngest Griff, Milli, is a great duck dog and I only need one. I plan on doing more grouse hunting and wanted to develop the setter some for that. With their intensive wind scenting instincts (less tracking which typifies my Griffs) they have the capacity to be excellent grouse dogs.

Should be fun for sure.
