Default 2022 FL trip for Tarpon

I am starting to work on the bucket list. One near the top for fishing is Tarpon. I have gotten great advice here on other trips so I thought I would see anyone here has done tarpon fishing down in FL.

Anyone here have advice on a guide and time of year?

Thanks,
Chris

april thru july is gonna be prime time with the migration

there are so many places you can go from miami and the florida bay on down it endless

the area i like the best is down by marathon key and the 7 mile bridge area as they travel back and forth around the bridges.. when you see a big black spot in the water that usually a big school of the tarps

i was at haulover park in june and we were cleaning dorado "mahi mahi" and throwing scrapes in the water at the dock and the tarpon would boil and tear up the scrapes , just crazy to watch, fish from 200 - 300 lbs right under the dock and anything that hit the water got mauled..

lots of boat rentals down in the keys too if you don't want to get the boat in the salt and very short boat rides to the fishing

I now live in Punta Gorda, transplant from the U.P. As mentioned, tarpon migrate from the Keys all the way toward Tampa and above. Boca Grande Pass is nearby me, certainly one of the top spots, along with the whole Pine Island Sound, Sanibel, Captiva area. A good source of info is floridasportsman.com. they have regional pages, lots of general fishing information. Once you decide on an area, take into account what you may want for lodging etc. you can source some guides. Many of the top guides are very busy during the tarpon season. This year, I caught them as early as April, and my last one (biggest of the season) was in Sept., fishing in Charlotte Harbor. The peak season is May and June here, but fish are around before and after that. Good Luck, if you decide on this general area, I can make some recommendations.
