I have an 1880 Skeeter and I've been able to get down to 2.0 mph with mine. Trolling with the wind was a little faster and against was a little slower as expected. I just have the SmartCraft monitor, not the gauges. I did not adjust the RPMs at all. If I need to get down to 1.0 mph, I have a vantage for that.

Default Various speed attained

Slowest speed I can reach with my 135 V-Rod is ~ 2MPH @ 550RPM (lowest setting in troll mode)

Depends on prop pitch, boat drag, current, wind........lots of variables

Best I was able to do is around 2 mph. I love my Verado, but I wouldn't troll with it for any extended period of time. My dealer says different but I know I could smell gas in my oil with my 1st Verado.

How does trolling put gas in your oil? Does it run too cold?

Pretty good ......
I can get my 200 Verado down to a little over 2 if I play with the trim .

Skindog,
If you are serious about trolling with a big motor and want to be able to do it for hours at a time, give up the top speed of your rig and put on a much lower pitch prop.
When you do, limit your throttle excursion to insure that you don't over rev the motor.

But, lets say that you normally run a 21 pitch prop and get 55 mph out of the rig at top end and have a 2.2 mph tolling speed.

But if you put on a 15 pitch prop, you will have a top end of about 38 mph, an incredible hole shot, and vastly superior ability to work big waves, but you will then be able to troll at about 1 mph.

So, if you work mainly fish big water that normally limits your top end to a speed in the 20-30s, and you find that your fishing is typically 10-15 hours a day of trolling, you might consider changing your prop to a much lower pitch prop.

But if you do pitch way down, be sure to keep an eye on your tach when you accelerate so that you don't overrev your engine.

Take care
REW

Skindog - you get a different boat? If so, pics are a must.

All 'digital' Merc motors are Smartcraft compatible - so you'll be good there.

The mid range Vrods I've been in typically flirt with the 2 mph category trolling forward. The 6 cylinder models will troll a bit slower than the Mid range model. If it's broke in right, I wouldn't be concerned with trolling with the 150. I've got lots of trolling hours on my 275.

No new boat any time soon, just wondering.

Right now I think Merc has the best tiller set up in the bigger motors because of the ability to troll down with the Smartcraft gauges.

I like how the tiller locks in an upright position for trailering too.
