I get angry at printers on a regular basis.

Yes ,buying manufacturers ink cartridges is a scam but you can go on ebay and get generic cartridges at a fraction of msrp. You can also refill your own with a little time and effort. Keeps cost way down, especially if you print out alot of pages.

Saw a report on TV the other day talking about how some of the newer printers will not accept generic cartridges. The cartridge will snap in and fit but an error message comes up when you try to use the machine and it will not print.

I had it with ink printers a couple years ago. You can get a laser printer for less than $100 and it has eliminated the ink issues for me.

Each marking system has its pros and its inconveniences. From the mfg's standpoint, the main thing to lock the client in ink and paper is to make the money. For this reason, most printers are sold under the production cost.
A pretty continuous struggle is going on between those who want vanilla refillable cartridges and printers want their carts to contain proprietary bits, which cannot be reproduced or replenished outside the ecosphere of printer makers.
