Rapala lures don't come with a split ring but there is nothing stopping anyone from adding that to each of their Rapala lures. But when you are changing lure often especially in the dark retying can be a pain in the livewell so a SMALL snap is the ideal solution to this problem. BTW years ago Rapala developed the Rapala Loop Knot to be tied to their lures. However, I find it to be a weak knot at best. Therefore I prefer the Berkeley Cross Lock Snaps when running Rapala's or similar type lures. These snaps will never open up on you while fishing or fighting a large fish. Bob

My general go to set up is to tie a small Sampo swivel tied to main line, then a 6 foot or so leader of something that's a lesser test than the main line, usually mono unless I'm musky/northern fishing.
The 6 foot leader lets me retie different lures/jigs and being lesser test strength it snaps before I lose any main line. At the end of the leader I can either tie direct or use some sort on snap. Al

swivel
More and more I use just a snap IF the lures I'm using don't spin eg cranks, blade baits, but for 'spinning lures, eg spoons I use a better quality snap swivel. Those cheapies are ok only for eg vertical perch fishing etc. For bigger fish, quality matters.
