Angry T9.9 Trouble

Have a Yamaha 4 stroke T9.9 kicker, manufacture date 1997.
It will start up okay and usually run at idle for ever but any time I try to put it in gear or throttle it up it seems to shut off. Any ideas? Would really like to get it going better before tournament season in a couple weeks in case I need it to pull cranks.

Thanks in advance,
SH

I have a Mercury 9.9 kicker that did that for a while. My fix was to pull the carb apart and clean it out since the jets got gunked up with dried up fuel.

Things to check before you do that would be the 1.) fuel filter and 2.) fuel line bulb you squeeze to get fuel to the motor.

definitely sounds like a carb issue
