Putting on some new springs. Should i change out the hangers or just put the springs in the old ones. Would only need to take the spring out then.
Thanks GDI |

I think it would all depend on the condition of the hanger. Rust, salt, fatigue, bent, etc? If the springs themselves were weak, I wouldn't worry about the hanger. I would replace the bolt and spring, but not the hanger.
Is this a leaf or a slipper style?

If any part on the trailer shows sign of damage, material loss due to corrosion - replace it.
If not, no need. But, for some equipment with severe corrosion, a cutting torch is your best friend to expedite the job. --- However, it is normally assumed that if a person has asked a question about the need for a part replacement; one often infers that the person asking the question - has seen something in their inspection that gives rise to their asking the question. So, normally if a person asks the question - replace the part to quell the latent concern about the part which precipitated the question in the first place. Take care |

I think they are ok I just was wondering if it had to be done. Just replacing springs because of age. Shackles look ok but I haven't takin anything apart yet. |

You will find as you take it apart that the rear hangers are probably egg shaped. This is a definite wear point on most trailers as they are usually metal to metal. If your springs are old enough to warrant replacement, and you have never replaced the shackles and bolts, you are gonna see definite wear there. At the very least replace the shackles, bolts, and bushings. Once apart you can determine if there is enough wear on the hangers to warrant replacing them...
