I wonder how old it is, 15-20 years?

What do you mean, "What did he do with it?" It's pretty obvious from the pictures he didn't release it.

According to the picture posted here, he took it to a grocery store meat department to have it officially weighed on a certified scale.

I'm sure after it is officially announced as the new state record, it will become a skin mount.

You can argue all you want about how it should have been released and a replica made, but it would never be officially inducted into the record books without a certified weight.

That's a fish of a lifetime and I do not begrudge him his trophy if he wants it. It's his legal right to take that fish if he wanted to....and, he did.

Congrats to John...I thought I would be jealous but as I search my feelings I am not whatsoever. I am happy for the man. Very nice fish hands down.

I too am curious what that fish was eating to grow like that...hmmm

In regards to Juls comment...I completely concur with you. When I am out guiding I mention to the clients that the state slot is one fish over 20" per angling license. It is their right to keep that one fish regardless if it is 20 inches or larger. But only the one per will be kept in my boat. I do however try and sway them from keeping anything between 20 and 26/27 inches as those are the most important ones to the reproduction cycle in my home lake. But I do no push if they want to keep one in that range. They paid for their lic. they paid me it is their right.

Again fantastic fish caught out west!!!!
