Default RE: headboats lake erie

yes I made the mistake of thinking they wouldn't go out when it was too rough. It was a few years ago and there were 6-8 foot waves only me and the captin and the mate weren't chumming.

Default Erie Headboats Take to Rough Seas & Catch Fish

Headboats go out in rought weather, as long as the customers
are go. Last year in May, I was out with a pack of headboats
in 6' to 7' seas - about 12 miles out of Port Clinton.
The conditions were VERY ROUGH!

However, the fish were biting like crazy. All of us, including
the headboats were cleaning up on inline spinners. When the
waves went down to 3' to 4' the bite stopped. Soon the headboat
captians were on their radios to each other lameting the
declining waves and faultering bite, then the waves went
to 1' to 2' and the bite started again.

I have been out on headboats when the waves increased from
3' to 6'+ and the bite again was HOT.

A few years back the lake was rough and then a storm came in.
The headboat, the Sassy Sal out of Port Clinton, heard a distress
call and rescued the crew in a terrible storm. The newspapers
claim that had not the Sassy Sal made the tough decision to
come to the crew's rescue, all would have been lost (it was
front page in all the local papers). The captain make this
rescue with the customers on board. Many were VERY sea sick and
one customer, a Pastor, described the event as terrifying.

So almost all the PC headboats do go out in rough water.
Their captains, for the most part, a experienced Lake Erie
boaters and fishermen. If the bite is ON and the customers
are willing - they are going.
