When I bought my boat the dealer and the factory told me that most are ordering with 115ís and 90ís and sent me performance reports and that everyone has been happy with them. I ordered mine with a 150 and couldnít be happier. No idea how fast it will go but itís a lot faster than Iím willing to go in a tiller. Gets on plane instantly has plenty of get up when I need it in the rough stuff. The best part is it cruises at 30mph at half throttle and is way more fuel efficient than the 135ho I had previously on a smaller boat.

Given the fact that Merc just released the 450 supercharged V8, I think I'd wait until the 350/400 supercharged V8s are out

Maybe they think they can get 350 out of the pro xs w/o supercharging it. That would be a good replacement for the verado and cheaper than the 450R

Default 400hp motor

I am struggling with justifying motors greater than 300 for my theatrical boat. Then the 350hp becomes the norm or I rationalize the larger motor and begin to accept it on my future boat. Now the new 400hp is the same weight as the 350 hp and will be ordering it on the Ď20 Ranger 622.

Now you attach this link to the 450hp and it looks cool, canít justify it any more than the other motors greater than 300 hp but am wondering when it will be listed on the Max allowable Hp on the boat I am ordering.

I am also wondering where Yamaha is in the quest for low weight high HP engines. I have had great experience with them on the ocean and believe as a consumer we will all benefit with competition in this area.

Supercharged 350 and 400 V8s might already be in production at Merc. I visited a dealer in Iowa in March and he told me last year they weren't even aware the new V8's were replacing the 300 and under Verado line until they started placing orders.

Unless the upcharge for the 400 is ridiculous that's what I'll be ordering. Might never use the extra 50HP but it's there. Same logic I used when I bought my first diesel pick up and that's worked out nicely.

My .02 worth owning a Lund 2175 for a couple years now with the 350, if the 400 doesn't make any more diff. than the 275 to 350 I have now it isn't worth it. I am very disappointed in the performance of my 350 compared to the 275 I had in my boat before. Granted I went from a 2025 pro V to a 2175 pro V the 350 feels sluggish and has a very disappointing top end. After trying several props I am lucky if the stars and moon align to get 58 mph out of it. Not pizzed just expected a bit more. I love the boat and the way it fishes but the extra 75 h.p. got lost somewhere? I guess I just can't shake the hot-rodder out of me! LOL I do love the Verado platform though I have never had any bad luck with them. Steve
