Any reason you're getting the 621 and not the 622?

Whatever that reason is, is the same reason you probably don't need the 400.

It was only a few years ago that the Verado 400hp was branded from the Mercury Racing group. Those engines are at the ragged edge of technology limits with corresponding warranty limits. Too close to the edge for me, so I would go with the 350 even though the 400 has probably been fortified for general marine use.

The next question is-how long before the I-6 Verado 350 And 400 disappear. Will a detuned V8-450 replace them?

621 will barely fit in my garage and I’ll need to modify a dog kennel so I can walk around the boat.

620 would fit with zero mods.

621 has 10” extra behind the windshield vs the 620 and that’s a big deal during trolling season.

622 would fit but I’d have to shoot the dog and remove the kennel and that ain’t happening. Love the dog and my wife loves the dog more than me.... Duh!

350 and 400 are same exact motor as far as dimensions.

So the 621 vs the 622 and the 350 vs the 400 aren’t the same reason.

I’m pretty sure the difference between the 350 and the 400 is simply a chip programming difference and possibly a couple of small hardware mods. My assumption is I’ll rarely ever use the power but it’s there it I want it but if I rarely use it then there’s no downside other than initial cost and fuel.

I guess if you never took your boat off the trailer and actually enjoyed it, you just sat around at the ramp waiting for someone to tell you how awesome you are, this might be possible.

If you're out there enjoying all that power and having fun in your boat, then I don't see what "vanity" has to do with it in any way. I sure as heck wouldn't care what others thought while I was out having fun in my 400 HP boat.

The thought of running across Lake Tahoe at 60+MPH at 6:00 AM in the middle of summer or Pyramid Lake at 65 MPH on a calm day is the primary reason I want the biggest motor possible!

Totally irrational but in reponse to the second post on this thread:

1) Because he has them.
2) Because he can. Oh yeah, no arrest warrant for doing it in public!
3) Because it feels really good! At least I assume it does....

Sadly, I don't follow these things as much as some do.

Have you seen any reports of the performance difference between the motors? I know it takes a significant amount of horsepower to make what feels like an insignificant difference in speed/hole shot. But that extra HP can make the engine a lot thirstier.

All that said, I will go with the cliche that no one ever complains about too much HP. And after making a purchase this big, you certainly do not want to have buyers remorse - thinking "man, I wish I would have bought the 400".

My zv21 needs every ounce of the 350 Verado because it is a big, heavy boat. Not sure what modifications the new 621 will have but I wouldn't go less than 350. Get the 400 and simply don't use the whole throttle if you don't need to. good luck with your new boat!

In my opinion is, if the cost difference doesn't create a hardship, what downside is there? It's easier to not use all the power, than wishing you had it. A bonus is resale, max power is always a good thing. I have a 300hp snowmobile. Do I use all the power all the time, nope, but it's a hoot when I do...lol
