Thanks for any imput. I've been doing some reading, but I'm really not sure what to do.
To answer the first question, there are some variables. Consider the size of the boat, how the boat is set up and how you like to fish.

If you have a tiller boat and occasionally fish off the bow, it may not be a good set up.

If you have a console style boat and mostly fish off the bow, AND the sonar is mounted on a rotating base - either supplied as part of the unit or an aftermarket - AND you can see it through your wind shield, one unit may work for you.

Thanks for the replies. I'll look at the different options a bit more before making a decision. I fish out of an 18'' Lund tiller and spend a lot of time backtrolling or vertical jigging so the unit will be at the transom. I could spend more money for the colour dsi, but then would I be better to get the HDS since we are now talking about the same price range? Or, like REW said I could wait a year for the price to drop and for more people to have tried them...

The HDS will not have Down Scan. You will need to add the $600 add on Sturcture scan module to get it. You will also have side scan if you go this way, but it will cost around $1300.

Very tru will cost more if you go hds route. But i prefer the color over blackn white. So much easier to pick things up on the sonar and easier to see during the day.
