Default Down East rod holders

I am interested in the concept of just lifting the rod up to release from the holder. Seems really quick and you can lift the rod without putting any pressure on the lure.
Have you used the Down East rod holder?

Only holders I have in my boat. Down East are metal holders built for bigger fish. A lot of the Muskie guys here in Minnesota use them.

Takes a bit of practice learning to get the rod "locked" in and a few times pulling it out to catch on. Once you get that figured out you will love them. If you are predominately a Walleye guy they might be overkill unless you are speed trolling for bigger fish.

Very strong, as stated lots of musky guys use them on Lake St Clair, very adjustable and great for down rods and sticking a rod in the prop wash. Just grab rod and lift up and it's clear.
When pulling six walleye lines I often use them just to hold a rod when clearing a line, saves reaching out to the tree.

They look like they might be tough on handles. I don't troll for musky's and I like tube holders and Rams. Any word on rod handles? Might try a couple if they don't dig in. Bob

Not tough on handles at all. Have used them for years.

Might be a little spendy for some if you don't need metal.

I have the black powder coated kind. No damage to the reels what so ever.

My late fishing buddy and I used to use them exclusively. I don’t think you’d ever tear one up, and we never had any issues with them being hard on rod handles. Kind of a long story how I got away from using them.

The only ones I use when I troll with the rod tips(sometimes in the water) close to the water.
