Good unit.

I have one at the wheel and ran 2 before I picked up a Helix12 SI.

I'd recommend the heading sensor GPS, but the internal works fine for most people.

I had the humingbird 997 that had the white boxes on the sides. I did not like how much screen space the boxes took up. When you had gps on the course box was always up with no way to turn it off. It looks like the 999 has not changed that. I could be wrong. It looks like the helix 9 has the info not in boxes. Just overlaid over the screen. That is how Lowrance does it and it does not take up your screen space as much.

I have the 899HD SI and the display boxes can be turned off. You can select what you want to display in the boxes, or not. I can't imagine the 9 series not having the same functionality.

I'm picking up a 898 SI and MK 80#, I-Pilot after the first of the year for my 16' Sylvan deep v.
