Default Cabins - VRBO - sharing idea..

Hi guys,
I recently stayed at a VRBO (Vacation Rental by Owner) on lake Vermilion and the owner of the cabin told my group that he is removing the cabin from VRBO due to the regulations recently imposed by the county.

This has me thinking that there are a lot of people on the site that travel to destinations to fish and there are a lot of home and cabin owners that may be willing to rent out their places for a week to like minded folks. Is there any interest from the people on this site to create a cabin rental page?

It's a shame the way these politicians want to control every aspect of our lives. I hope you can get this page going so owner and renters can be united without government always in our pockets.

I have used VRBO on well over 10 occasions, simple, easy, and a great resource. I'm wondering what kind of regulations the owner is talking about.

Increased taxes on VRBO properties. The OP's idea won't legally get around this issue.

Here is one article.
The owner mentioned the 300' buffer and property lines while we were there. I think he also had some issue with a shared well and sewer. I'm not an expert on the details but I think general the resorts and hotels are not very happy about private rentals.

Not only resorts and hotels but also cabin/cottage rentals and campgrounds as well. The little guy always gets squeezed out.

This is about real estate taxes with VRBOs being taxed like commercial properties instead of residential. It will kill the VRBO industry in MN.

Its possible that the neighbors don't like neighborhoods being turned into motel rooms with transients coming and going every weekend and they're the ones pressuring for rules. I wouldn't want to live next to a VRBO with weekend parties by people that don't have a stake in the neighborhood.

If cabins are going to be used for commercial purposes, they should be taxed and regulated accordingly, just like other commercial properties.

It's not neighbors complaining driving this, it's hotels and resorts.

I have a cabin on Lake Vermilion with a VRBO nearby and have never experienced the issues you mentioned.

IMO there needs to be a intermediate solution. A cabin that is rented out a few weeks a year should not be taxed the same as a hotel that is commercial 24/7/365.

BTW I don't rent my cabin out so I have no dog in the hunt but I'm not bothered by my neighbors occasionally renting their cabin.
