I'm a bit surprised and disappointed in the quality of work Alumacraft did under the floor. It was clearly done in a rush.

Make sure you soak the wood and edges with a spar varnish to seal it. Carpet glue will adhere it it. Got my Marine carpet from Lowe's 20'x6' piece came to around $150. While you have it apart..now is the time to replace/upgrade your wiring and plumbing It took me 6 months to finish my 1988 Lunker redo....It was a complete gut job.

I can relate to that, I work full time and am a novice carpenter at best so the whole idea of restoring a boat seemed way over my head. As I tore it apart I recall thinking..."what have i done, look at this mess"!

One thing I did is took a ton of pictures....I spent ALOT of time thinking of how I wanted the redo to turn out. I had to drill out EVERY one of the rivits.....BTW Alumacraft also spot welded some of the brackets....I asked the site admin to add a Restoration/MOD/ADD ON section, so people like us can display our restorations and modifications to others...I hope it goes thru...I'll be the 1st one to post.

I haven't posted for a few days, mainly because the next step is paint. The rain and humidity stalled the project. The only thing I have been able to do is wet sand the 1st coat. The next coat should be the final coat, am going to use the roll and tip method. It looks like tomorrow will be the day.

The weather gave me a break and we got a 2nd coat of paint done, we used the roll and tip method. Wet sanding the paint and adding a new layer of paint improves the overall finish. I got tired of watching paint dry so I installed the rod locker. If you look close the lower hull is dirty, I have been putting of the inevitable, crawling under my boat and scrubbing the hull...
