Default Alumacraft 185 Tpro tiller/wheel boat

I have a 185 Tpro tiller with a 90 hp Johnson 4stk and just LOVE this boat, the lay out, rods storage and side storage in the gunnels which is where I can store 4 musky rods/reels.

My question is why is the tiller only rated for a 100 hp and the same wheel boat rated for a 200 hp?
Is the transome the same ? I know I should NOT do it but would love to have a 150 PRO XS on my rig, I have been looking at 20' boats with higher hp rating but don't need a 20'er or the payments, and like I said before I LOVE the layout on mine just wish it was 15-20mph faster

It's been discussed so many times on here and everytime the answer is the same. Coast Guards rating system is out dated for today's boats and motors. They have formulas that they use to configure horse power ratings for both tiller and remote steering. 20ft boats are unregulated by the coast guard hence how some have 250hp tillers now.

Everyone on here will say don't go over the rating because if something happens your insurance won't cover it... if they are willing to insure you with a motor over the rating of your boat your good to go.

If you want a boost in performance that's within your rating check out the new 90 ho etec that thing is an animal for a 90hp motor.

Lunker I know it's been discussed,But just want to know if the tiller and wheel boat transoms are made the same ? and seen before where you can just get new CG stickers.
And getting a 90 HO wouldn't make that much difference, but now an extra 60+hp

Au contraire.....the difference between a 90 HP four stroke and the Etec 90 HO will indeed make a difference.....if a ranger 618T is in the low 40s with that motor.....youll notice it on your rig.
