Terrova Prop wont start.

Got it all put back together tonight new seals and the brushes all cleaned and moving free again. Out of the water its working great on off every time no issues. We will see once I can get it in the water what we got.

limit your testing of prop spinning when out of water.
The water does two things that protect the seals
It cools the prop shaft from friction which will create heat and it helps lubricate the outer seal

The seals come pre-lubed, friction & heat will minimize the effectiveness of lube
You don't want to burn up the seals

Thank you learning a lot on this deal. I mostly just tested on and off at slow speed to make sure it was consistent. We will see once water is added.

I see mntion of bad brushes. Would this be a cause for less power. I do not seem to have the power with the motor that i once had. The motor is about 10,years old

Possibly at 10 years, but I would guess connections or battery first. The place where you connect the motor wires to the power is where vibration and wear and tear loosen and actually make the wires black and less conductive. Check that and the batteries and connections before you mess with the motor. JMO Bob

The comments about water in the lower unit and brush problems - lead one to consider purchasing a "Ghost" trolling motor.

This is one of the first trolling motors on the market with a Brushless motor.

i.e.
No brushes to ever stick or go bad.

But, of course if the seals fail so that water gets into the motor - the moisture can still cause motor related issues.
