Question hooking battery.

Going to go thru and do some rewiring and got to thinking since marine batteries have two posts total four does it make sense to run the kicker and main engine off of one terminal and the rest of the boat off of the other?

Not sure of your reason for the question. The connections for the motors is usually the automotive type(tapered post) so that is what should be hooked to that post the rest should have ring terminals attached to the threaded posts. They are both connected to the other. The two types are made for that situation (Marine configuration). Bob

More like just trying to clean up the wiring some as right now there are 7 wires running to each terminal that is a stack of wires by using the second terminal just makes it easier and in my head better connections between the wires.

When possible I normally run my kicker, battery charger, and main motor off one terminal. Then use the other one for the extra stuff. I have so much stuff in my boat. I ran wires to buss bar. Then added my extra stuff to that. I would recommend that the kicker, battery charger, and main are run direct to the battery. Not though the buss bar.

I think the code is about 2 or 3 max terminals on the battery stud. A terminal strip (as mentioned) or a fuse block is an even better solution. JMO Bob

I'd recommend adding fuse block like the one below near the battery. If you add something to the posts you'll still have all those wires running to the top of the battery. If you add a block you can greatly reduce the number of wires to the posts. Without all the wires, it makes it easier to get to the battery for maintenance and removal.

I already have fuse blocks these are wires that need to go directly to the battery to feed everything else. I just thought it might be better then stacking them all on one terminal of the battery since there are 2 negative and 2 positive terminals on the battery already.
