Default Thoughts on Ugly Stick Carbon rods?

I’ve got an Abu ambassador reel made in Sweden (red) from years ago…it’s in mint condition…..been sitting on a Berkley MH lightning rod 6’6”….end up never using it.

Haven’t used it much at all. Today I was at the fisherman’s outlet store in spirit lake. I was debating just getting a 6’6” Medium GX2 ugly stick to put it on for trolling since they were only $15 for the GX2 Ugly sticks. Then I seen the Red carbon Ugly sticks…..they were about $50, but had slit rips in the fighting but.

So…..what the opinions on the Carbon Ugly Sticks? Are they $35 better then the GX2 series?

I run the 7' med GX2's for trolling here. If you found them for 15.00 snatch them up! They run 39.99 in most stores right now.

Love them for trolling.

At that price......buy me 10 of them !!!!

Iíve used the 6í-6Ē Ugly Sticks paired with Ambassadeur 6500s since the mid 90ís. Caught a bunch of 40Ē+ pike up Nort and Red Bullís in saltwater with no problem.

I can't speak to the carbon sticks, but if you have GX2's for $15 these things are just about bullet proof for trolling, I have several that have out lasted most other rods. The dang things are durable and take a lot of abuse when it comes to trolling, I use them on the down riggers and for pulling boards. They may not be ideal, but I have yet to destroy one.

good luck

I’ve got an original 6’6” medium ugly stick & 2-7’ medium GX2 for pulling boards.

And yes the GX2 rods are $15. The fisherman’s outlet gets them from the Factory across the road. The reason they are $15 is they are either rods that had been returned, a previous combo where something was wrong with the reel, or it has some slight cosmetic defect (like a foam handle with a small dent or rip in the foam. A slightly scratched blank)

They also have a bunch of name brand reels that run $50-$100 in stores for $15. They come off of combos where the rod was returned or broken in shipping.

So a lot of my rods and reels come from the store.

Nothing wrong with the Ugly Stik GX2 especially for $15. I've got about 10 of them for trolling and the best part of the rods is that it takes a lot to break them. Sometimes when you have kids or newbies on the boat, the gear takes a pounding. The Carbons are lighter rods and those rods you showed in the pic are casting rods. The carbon is lighter in weight so you don't get tired as fast.

The Ugly Stick Carbon is a $79 rod. I have not fished them but I've handled them in a retail setting. I enjoy and own higher end equipment and my impression of the Carbon was very favorable. I'll pick one or two up to leave in Florida at the in law's rather than schlep my rods there. The GX2 in a rod holder trolling and the Carbon rod in hand. At those prices you can't miss.
