Which is better for braid?
when I notice a fish is on I would like to be able to snap the line off the front clip and pull the board in backwards. This way I'm not fighting a board for 20-30 feet before I unhook it. Anyone run them? Looking for opinions. Thanks! |

I ran the Sam's for the first time a couple weeks ago. A buddy had them on his mag offshore boards.
Really liked them and plan to change a couple boards over to compare them to stock boards of the same size.

Thanks for the input. I'm probably going to order up a couple of the Sams and go from there.

You'll like them. Once you get the tension set to your liking they are consistent on how they release. There is a screw that sets the tension (similar to a dipsy).

I'm the buddy that B-man was talking about.
I had tried a couple different releases and was not happy. OR-16 OR-18 and had trouble with braided line slipping through the release. Not only did you fight the fish but you were always fighting the board. With the Sam's snap the rod tip and the front releases and you just fighting the fish. Just make sure you have a OR-16 with the pin on the back. Works GREAT!

Has anyone use these Sams Pro release with mono?

I use the Sams release with 20 lb big game mono for salmon fishing. I like it except it takes a little more time to redeploy. Getting the line wrapped around takes longer. If it is on the rough side sometimes the looped line comes off before you get it clicked in. For Walleye fishing when you are also catching allot of non target fish it is to much a pain. I use mono for walleye fishing with the 411 fishing orange clip in front or18 in back. Just loop twist the mono into the orange clip. I do not think that would work with braid. It is faster for me then sams for walleyes.

Ran the Sam's all last year with braid for salmon, love them. Like was said, make sure your back clip has the pin. Only problem with them is you have to make sure that you wrap the line in the right direction, or they will hang up and not trip. My kid hates them when he sets lines, but he knows it all, and doesn't want to be told how to use them. Had to turn around to pick up one board last year, but honestly think we didn't actually get the line behind the pin in the back. Also most always run my dipsys off a drop loop with a small s-biner. Lure's about 50' back. Just unclip the dipsy when reeling in, and land the fish without it, really simple. I do want to try a wire dipsy this year though.
